Queen
Drag Queen: /’drag, kwēn/
Noun, a man who dresses up in women’s clothes, typically for the purposes of entertainment.
The first recorded use of drag was in 1870 when actors dressed in women’s clothing.

Londyn Starz (Dylan), is a local drag queen from a small town in Indiana, she currently performs every weekend at Someplace Else, a gay bar located on Main St. in Evansville, and works at MAc cosmetics located in dillards.

At around 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening, Starz burst through the bar doors and walked up the stairs to the backstage dressing rooms, the carpet was dirty, and the walls were missing paint, but for Starz this was “home.”

She sat down at her makeup table counter and began the makeup process that would fill the next three hours. “I’m never on time,” she joked.

Starz, known for her nude or red lip, sassy personality and what she likes to call her “slutty look” gets ready in the dirty mirror backstage. “You want a lipstick that makes you feel like a bad ass woman,” she said. “We all have one.”

What most people don’t know is that drag can be dangerous, the eyelashes are stuck to the eyelid by a strong adhesive glue that has a stench smelled for miles. It also can cause skin and eye damage. The three layers of tights and extra tight shapewear Starz has to wear to perform often leaves bruises on her skin after performances, her answer to all of this: “Beauty is pain.”

Minutes before having to announce the first act of the night, Starz grabs her blonde wig from her closet and puts it on to get the complete Londyn Starz look.

It’s 12 a.m. and show time for Starz, the show usually lasts until about 2:30. in the morning, for Starz this is just another Saturday night, a night with her family, and a night doing what she loves.
